A must for families with younger children, the Children's Museum of Houston, located less than three miles from our hotel, is all about combining hands-on learning and fun. A vision of a group of parents dedicated to enhancing early childhood development, the museum opened its doors to the public in 1980. Since its inception, the museum has garnered nationwide acclaim and is the highest-attended museum of its kind in the country for its size, welcoming more than 750,000 guests annually.
The 14 interactive exhibits focus on bilingual education for children from birth to 12 years of age. However, the museum is in the process of doubling its current size to 83,000 square feet and will feature an additional 7 exhibits, including one based on the popular PBS animated series KIDS GO! This expansion project will be complete and open to the public on March 14, 2009.
