Wortham Theater Center
The Wortham Theater Center is an impressive 437,500 square-foot facility, opened in 1987, and built completely through private funding and donations from dedicated Houstonians. A vision of Gus S. Wortham, the founder of American General Insurance Company, the Center today has welcomed more than 5 million guests to its grand halls and beautiful spaces.
The Center houses a soaring 6-story Grand Foyer and two theaters. The 2,432-seat Alice and George Brown Theater provides an amazing 17,000 square-foot stage used for major performances, and is known for its exceptional sight lines as no seats are more than 138 feet from the stage.
